Central Department of Statistics, Tribhuvan University is the sole department in Nepal which offers and produce Master's Degree holders in Statistics as well as PhD in Statistics. The department was established in 1972 with its first Head of the Department, Prof. B. N. Nagnur of Karnatak University, India . In its early developing phase, Indian Co-operation Mission supported M.Sc. Statistics program with distinguished Professors Dr. P. C. Sharma and Dr. A. V. Kharshikar. In due course of time, TU constructed Statistics Instruction Committee which later transformed to Central Department of statistics.
